ARTIST STATEMENT

I am interested in the feelings evoked by certain places, objects, and people. I am fascinated with specific variations of light and shadow which give me an intense feeling of beauty and can only be found within the shapes of natural things. In this time of instant gratification and fast, bright images, I am compelled in the direction of works that are subtle, are best seen live, and require quiet contemplation to fully appreciate.

BIO

Gayle Madeira (b. 1969 Texas) is a contemporary artist based in New York City. She studied art at Grand Central Academy, New York Academy of Art and The Art Students League, and holds a BFA from SUNY Purchase. Gayle’s work has been exhibited at the Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art, MEAM Museum (Museu Europeu d’Art Modern), Sotheby’s (NYC and LA), The National Arts Club, Salmagundi Club, Williamsburg Art and Historical Center, 33 Contemporary, Principle Gallery, Abend Gallery, Foundation Gallery, and the New York Hall of Science, among others. Her paintings have appeared in International Artist magazine (2020, 2021), American Art Collector (2021), Fine Art Connoisseur (2021), books, and films and have been finalists in ModPortrait (2022), Figurativas (2019), Art Renewal Center salons (2020, 2019, 2018, 2016, 2015), the Portrait Society of America (2020, 2019, 2018, 2016), and the Artist’s Magazine (2019, 2015, 2014, 2009).
