CAREER NARRATIVE
Anthony Waichulis (b. 1972) hails from rural Pennsylvania and has established a national reputation for his trompe l'oeil paintings. The brilliant dimensionality he achieves is on par with the two most prominent American trompe l'oeil artists, John Peto and William Harnett. Beyond mere technical precision, Waichulis' paintings are compelling, and convey a sense of humor and original point of view. Upon careful inspection, the viewer begins to make a connection between the seemingly unrelated objects depicted. This clever use of narrative only adds to the allure of his work. Many references are culled for inspiration: popular culture, classic literature, and childhood memories, to name a few. His brushwork is virtually invisible, and the paintings have a remarkably smooth, matte surface quality. Waichulis' palette varies to include cool grays, muted earth tones, and vibrant primaries. His compositional skills are highly refined, perfectly balanced, and reflect a mature artist in full command of his talent.

Anthony Waichulis began his own formal art training in rural Northeastern Pennsylvania. Meeting a salvo of influential instructors, Anthony's determination and commitment to his craft resulted in an abundance of attention both regionally and afar. His first one-man exhibit would end up a near sell out within one hour of its opening; a strong foreshadowing of the reception his work would receive across the nation and beyond.
Upon completion of his studies, Anthony secured representation by one of the most respected galleries in the United States, The John Pence Gallery (San Francisco). Celebrated venues such as the Smithsonian Institute, World Art Museum (Beijing), The Arnot Art Museum, The Orlando Museum of Art, and others have and continue to host Waichulis endeavors in key exhibitions. Numerous awards, publications, and exhibits keep Waichulis' works at the forefront of the art world.
In January of 2006, Anthony Waichulis became the first Trompe L'oeil painter to be awarded Living Master status by The Art Renewal Center.
In 1997, Anthony opened the doors of his own studio in his Pennsylvania hometown. It was this Atelier, The Waichulis Studio (TWS) that would hold the first 'Capturing Realism' exhibit. Interest would soar each year for TWS's 'Capturing Realism'.
In 2010, The Waichulis Studio was approached by a newly forming entity with aspirations for an educational effort on a global scale. This new entity, The Ani Art Academies, was the brainchild of Mr. Tim Reynolds, co-founder of a thriving Wall Street trading firm, passionate artist, patron of the arts, and founder of The Tim Reynolds Foundation. With unwavering zeal to embark on this new educational venture in 2011, The Waichulis Studio merged with the Ani Art Academies project to form the domestic flagship of the Ani project, The Ani Art Academy Waichulis. Located in Northeast Pennsylvania, The Ani Art Academies Waichulis continues the Waichulis tradition; a focus on essential fundamentals of draftsmanship, properties of light, elements of perception, and various methods of painting without subscribing to any particular aesthetic. Through a comprehensive series of simple but challenging repetitive exercises, Ani Art Academies' Apprentices develop the ability to communicate with a vocabulary of confident marks, lines, values and colors. It is the Artist's particular employ of this highly adaptable visual vocabulary that will begin to reveal an artistic vision, and ultimately, a unique voice.
2012 brought the opening of the second and third Ani Art Academies, one on the Caribbean island of Anguilla (Ani Art Academies Anguilla) and the other in the Dominican Republic (Ani Art Academies Dominicana). Timothy W. Jahn, former Apprentice of The Ani Art Academy Waichulis, and the individual responsible for bringing the efforts of Tim Reynolds and Anthony Waichulis together, will be the first International Ani instructor. Academies are also scheduled to open in Thailand and Sri Lanka in 2015.
