Allan Gorman (b.1947, Brooklyn, NY - USA) is a self-taught painter who brings his strengths as an internationally celebrated ad man, brand marketing consultant and graphic designer to artworks that certainly reflect his own unique and distinctive brand. Soaring chrome exhaust pipes set on a stark blue sky, mirrors that reflect the geometries of industry, a macro trip inside a pocket watch mechanism – hard angles, strong colors and carefully thought-through compositions permeate works that have been seen in dozens of gallery and museum shows and private collections in both the US and Europe.
In 2013, he was awarded a Fellowship for Painting from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts - one of only six painters to win the prize, which is given only once every three years. In 2011, he was awarded a resident fellowship to Vermont Studio Center and was invited back to VSC for a second visit in the summer of 2014. Major exhibits have included solo and invitational showings at Anthony Brunelli Fine Arts (Binghamton, NY); CK Contemporary Galleries (San Francisco, CA); The Miller Gallery (Cincinnati, OH); Lia Skidmore Fine Arts (Santa Monica, CA); “Hyperrealism” at The Illinois Institute of Art (Chicago, IL); The Chattauqua Institute Exhibition 2013 (Chattauqua, NY); Mid-Atlantic New Oil Painting 2012 and 2014 at the Ritterhoff Martin Galleries (Fredericksburg, VA); the 2010 Arts Annual at the NJ State Museum (Trenton, NJ); ArtHamptons Art Fair (Bridgehampton, NY); Art Palm Springs (CA); twice on board the luxury art yacht Seafair at Art Greenwich (CT); Re-Presenting Realism at the Arnot Art Museum (Elmira, NY); ArtPrize 2014 and ArtPrize 2015 in Grand Rapids, MI; and the Masterworks of the International Guild of Realism’s Museum Tour traveling to art museums around the USA starting in May 2015.
Gorman’s work has been profiled in Manifest’s International New Painting Annual 2, America Art Collector, Transportation Today, Poets & Artists Magazines, The Huffington Post, about.com, and dozens of other print and electronic publications.
